Since we are travelling during Christmas and can't go on our yearly winter freeze-out backpacking trip, we were able to squeeze a small trip to Vermont at the end of Thanksgiving break. We hiked to Little Rock Pond in the Green Mountains in Vermont: just a couple miles to the campground so not an epic hike. But it allowed us to bring a lot more blankets. Aunt Allie came: kind of a rough intro to backpacking, but she did great!
We overpacked Ollie a little bit, but he is close to carrying his own stuff the whole time.
We stayed in the AT shelter, so we didn't even bring tents. We just hung a mega-tarp to block the wind. I think the night got down to maybe 20 F and I was a bit cold. We of course went to bed at like 5 pm because it gets dark and cold so early, so we watched movies in our bunks!
The lake was nice and not frozen yet, and overall it was a great little trip!
