We made our first attempt to backpack with all 6 of us! It was a success!
With it being our first time with all of us, and seeing that we don't know a ton about the area here and whether there would be room (especially with the wilderness areas being busier due to COVID), we were nervous that we might get 2.6 miles in to the campground and not have a spot open. As it turned out, we were the first to the campground and had our pick of sites.
This spot in the river had spots so deep that it was about 5 feet deeper than Scott could touch.
The kids made a little pool to collect polywogs, and collected about 10 of them.
Lower Franconian Falls
With lots of safety warnings posted, we were very careful, but I decided to try this waterslide with Aaron. Very turbulent in the water, but a fun little slide.
The campsite was nice. They had a bear box requirement, and a lot of bear activity in the campground the night before we camped, but luckily, nothing the night we stayed over. Cora said they had the "nicest port-a-potties ever!"
Now that we have done it once, we hope to go again soon! 2.5 miles in was a good distance. More would certainly have been a challenge for a 3 year old. Maybe we can go up a mile each year he ages.

Say what? This looks so awesome! That would be the perfect distance for my kiddos too. Gorgeous falls!
I'm considering buying backpacking tents for Christmas. Sofia is now almost 6 so we can totally backpack. The only issue we have is that Natalie (who is 8) is so small that she does not fit into even our smallest backpack so Jared and I would still have to carry most of the little girl's stuff. They are tough hikers and have both hiked 7 miles. We shall see. I need to be more adventurous. I'm getting lazy. Haha.
