NYC Day 1
Tim and Aaron and I drove to NYC early in the wee hours of Friday morning. (2:30 am)
They took school off for one day for the trip and I wanted to get there early in the morning so that we could see the city before it was supposed to start raining and never stop at 2 pm.
We drove straight to our hotel, the Ameritania at Times Square
Drive took 7 hours instead of 4 because we hit some accidents.
Once we did get parked and pre-checked in, the hotel kept our bags for us and it was 10 am.
We had 11:00 am tickets for the Empire State Building.
We walked down Broadway, viewed Times Square and got bagel sandwiches for a late breakfast. (Yum!)
The Empire State Building was about a 30 minute walk from the hotel. It was a great walking tour!
The interaction in the ESB is amazing! So much has changed in 20 years!
This screen showed movies that highlight the empire state building. Sometimes with just one movie and sometimes splitting into 28 screens.
Love this movie!
We were going to see Wicked that night, so this was fun to see!

Our Hotel Room
We used the Citi Bikes which was fun for a short ride, but we got tired and docked them.
Apparently, one of our bikes was not docked properly, so we had trouble after that.
The kiosks were not working, blank screens, so we ended up walking from kiosk to kiosk with no luck.....until we found out that a bike wasn't docked. I sent the boys to the hotel so I could run all the way back to Madisyn station and dock the bike properly, so that we could continue renting.
Huge hassle, but luckily, Lyft was helpful and corrected the issue of getting overcharged for the mistake.
It was stressful, but after we had a little break at the hotel and straightened that out, we felt motivated to get out again and see Central Park....without the bikes!
We walked for a couple of hours through Central Park.

At this point, we decided to try the Citi Bikes again and biked back to our hotel, and it worked great!
The Bears Statue in Central Park was covered in tea lights and had a large Halloween Group with Children around it.
When we arrived back to the hotel we got ready for our show!
Had an amazing pizza around the corner and a great Broadway show!
The trip was forecasted to rain the entire two days.
We were soooo fortunate that it only rained this evening after the show, and the next night as we drove home. The weather was actually perfect the whole time we were sightseeing. Such a huge blessing!

I love NY. We spent 6 weeks there when our kids were little (Joshua was only 6 and Natalie 1). I could live there once my kids were older or if it was just Jared and me. Granted we were there in the summer and the apartment we were renting was one block from Central Park (and we weren't paying for it; great to be a graduate student right then).
